May the 4th be with you: Eine neue Hoffnung (Internationaler StarWars Tag)

rund um azing

Es war immer unsere Vision, eine globale Wikipedia von Checklisten (Anleitungen) zu kreieren. Heute geht es live - willkommen zu azing.org.

Dies ist ein Englischer Blog-Post.

Prequel

JungleA long time ago, in a country far, far away, the iJungleboy (Daniel Mettler) grew up as a missionary kid. The jungles of Indonesia provided ample time and a bible translation computer, on which he learned to program.

Then he came to Switzerland and instead of getting a real education, he founded a company called 2sic to create awesome websites.

But dark omens were on the horizon: it was really hard to manage a company, train people and ensure that know-how flowed to ensure great results.

So he had to improvise, and developed a wikipedia/checklist/e-form hybrid. With this, his team was able to create interlinked instructions for getting things done.

It was like programming - just with recipes instead of procedures.

So the team went on to create over 300 recipes, and 2sic thrived. But it wasn't possible to share the solution with others, because it was quick and dirty. So he went on to create version II and III, but they still were not good enough. Now version IV is out, and it's ready :)

Episode IV: A New Hope

The new system is now called azing.org. It's a public wikipedia of recipes where people can create instructions to get anything done right.

It lets you write normal text to create instructions, just like using Word. Any bulleted lists automatically become checkboxes, images are automatically resized and links to other recipes automatically open up that recipe when you need it.

We believe it will change the world - because it's a revolutionary way to spread knowledge. Instead of writing how things function, it provides recipes and e-forms to let people get things done.

When a novel step like "make sure you have super-user permissions" confuses the user, a sub-recipe will guide him to the solution. And when a step like "Install DNN on your PC" is challenging, it will open an nvisionative recipe which will guide the user through installing NvQuickSite and using it. And that recipe will contain a SQL installation recipe. And so on.

Here some examples:

  1. My personal travel/pack recipe, which I'll use for DNN Connect
  2. A 2sic recipe to set up developer workstations
  3. This recipe explains how to install 2sxc - from ensuring you get the right file in github, all the way to follow-up work
  4. This (German) recipe shows how to plan and execute a photo-shoot, starting with a professional briefing and going through all kinds of decisions and steps to ensure it's really great.

Introduction Video May-4th

I created a special video to celebrate today - may the 4th be with you :)

With Love for the World

We love open sharing and hope you'll embrace it. Please try it out, check out one of the public catalogs, then sign in and give it a try yourself. We'll publish more recipes in days to come.

Love from Switzerland,
